Land rights and the rush for land findings of the global commercial pressures on land research project

More than 40 organisations collaborated in this global research project through case studies, thematic studies, and regional overviews, from which the content and analysis of this report are drawn. Several organisations, in particular SWAC, Oxfam and RRI, contributed significantly out of their own resources. The writing of this report involved an initial writing workshop in November 2010 with co-authors and contributing authors, and a second in June 2011 with co-authors. This report also draws on the extensive work of the partners in the Land Matrix project – ILC, CDE, CIRAD, GIZ, and GIGA, with the support of Oxfam, the Swiss Development Cooperation, and the European Commission. Collaborators included NGOs in affected regions, whose perspectives and voices are closest to most affected land users, as well as international research institutes. The process enabled organisations with little previous experience in undertaking such research projects, but with much to contribute, to participate in the global study and to have their voices heard. ILC believes that in an era of increasingly globalised land use and governance, it is more important than ever that the voices and interests of all stakeholders – and in particular those of local land users – are represented in the search for solutions to achieve equitable and secure access to land.
