Forum on Regional Health Impact Assessment Consultation on SEZ
The Asian Development Bank will hold forum on regional health impact assessment consultation on special economic zones at Centara Grand Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand on 28 November 2017.
Description
The objective of the consultation is to share member countries’ experiences as it relates to health impact assessment (HIA) and special economic zones (SEZs) and to solicit input into the ADB-drafted HIA SEZ framework and guidelines. An expected outcome of the proposed forum is to initiate regional alignment in HIA and SEZ strategies to maximize health opportunities and mitigate trans-boundary and other health risks specific to SEZ development.
Objectives
Share Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) country experiences with SEZ development and HIA
Consult on ADB HIA and SEZ framework and guidelines
Discuss opportunities for aligning HIA and health management strategies across the GMS region for SEZ development
Target participants
Given the objectives and expected outputs, the proposed activities will involve the participation of
Ministry of Health’s HIA authorities;
Ministry of Environment’s HIA and environmental impact assessment focal points;
SEZ authorities;
Officials from the Ministry of Planning and Investments and other relevant ministries and national stakeholders from each GMS country (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam); and
ADB staff and consultants involved in both HIA and SEZ development.
