Hanoi takes initiative in reducing greenhouse gas emissions
Joining the Ambitious City Promises project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, since October 2017, Hanoi is making every effort to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
According to Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment Le Tuan Dinh, Hanoi is Vietnam’s first city to carry out a GHG inventory, focusing on two fields namely waste and energy.
For gas emissions, it is estimated that by 2020, Hanoi’s average discharge is 4.053 million tons of CO2 per year. For energy, GHG emissions across the capital are forecast to increase to 18.2 million tons of CO2 by 2020 and 42.7 million tons by 2030, Dinh noted.
