Hungary to initiate major credit aid for Laos
Laos is expected to receive the biggest ever fixed aid credit programme worth US$160 million from Hungary to develop a food safety system, water management and information technology. The information was revealed during Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Saleumxay Kommasith and his delegation’s official visit to Budapest in Hungary this week, according to a statement from Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 1. The visit by Mr Saleumxay and his delegation from May 30-31 was in response to an invitation from Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Mr Péter Szijjártó, aiming to further enhance the relationship and cooperation between the two countries.
The visit was also a significant event for Laos and Hungary to help mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries which falls on September 12. During the talks, Mr Saleumxay and Mr Szijjártó took the opportunity to exchange their views and discuss mutual cooperation in the future, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, energy, education and other areas of interest.
