Mekong Delta: enterprises dodge environmental regulations
Despite warnings and punishments, enterprises have been using sophisticated methods to ignore regulations, damaging the environment and putting rivers in the Mekong Delta at risk. The Can Tho City People’s Committee has released a decision on imposing a fine of VND900 million on Huy Viet – Tay Do Production & Trade Company for discharging untreated waste water to the Hau River. Another company in Tra Vinh province, the Seafood Technology Solution JSC, has also been asked to pay VND424 million in fines for discharging untreated waste water into the Long Toan River. In fact, the inspectors from the Ministry of Natural Resources & the Environment and the police had examined the company, but did not discover the pipelines.
