MRC to train on RSAT hydropower assessment tool

The Mekong River Commission, in cooperation with GIZ, will host a comprehensive training course on an assessment tool of sustainable hydropower development later this year through early next year, and invites experienced water sector professionals to apply for the opportunity.

Together with the Asian Development Bank and the World Wildlife Fund, the MRC has developed the Rapid Basin-wide Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Tool (RSAT), an assessment tool designed to consider hydropower sustainability issues in a river basin context. The MRC’s Initiative on Sustainable Hydropower team has been training national professionals on the use of this tool for years.

The upcoming RSAT Training of Facilitators is a comprehensive training course on the tool with three one-week training sessions, one in September, another in January 2017 and the last in April next year. The training will cover both technical and methodological content on RSAT and dialogue facilitation. Upon completion of the training, participants are expected to be able to facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue processes about sustainable hydropower development.

The training is open to experienced water sector professionals from Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam only. Those who are interested in the training are invited to apply for the opportunity by 27 June. Selected participants will be required to attend a preliminary workshop in Vientiane, Laos, on 4 and 5 July 2016.
