Crackdown on “Encroachers” in Kaeng Krachan Forest Begins

Fresh evidence of apparent forest clearing and burning in the deep jungle of Kaeng Krachan National Park has been presented to the public to substantiate claims and the forest suppression operation by forest officials, while Karen supporter groups have condemned the latest suppression move and vowed to stage a protest in the city this evening.

The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry has endorsed a directive to crack down a group of people found encroaching the forest deep in Kaeng Krachan National Park after receiving some fresh evidence of video clips and photographs presenting apparent fresh marks of forest clearing and burning. This has also been publicly shared to some news agencies and the public since yesterday.

Dr. Yutthapol Ang-kinant, the Environment Minister’s advisor, who supervises the newly launched Petchaburi Watershed Protection Operation, has revealed today that the minister has instructed him to supervise the operation, under which a joint force is tasked to suppress forest encroachment activities around the controversial Bangkloi Bon village deep in the national park.
