Giant landfill in Saigon causing pollution
The $100 million Da Phuoc solid waste treatment complex in Da Phuoc Commune, Binh Chanh District, HCM City is considered the most modern of its kind in Vietnam but it is also a source of pollution for the surrounding area. Put into operation in 2007 by the Vietnam Waste Solutions Inc., Da Phuoc has an area of over 30 hectares for burying waste. It is designed to process 10,000 tons of waste per day up to international standards. Da Phuoc receives and process 5,000 tons of garbage a day. After years of operating, processing more than 8 million tons of waste, this landfill has been enlarged and has turned into a “mountain” of garbage.
