Govt orders action to resolve illegal occupation of land

The government has ordered action to address the illegal occupation and purchase of land, which was one of the outcomes of the government cabinet meeting for January that closed on January 25. Emerging land issues raised have been illegal occupation of lands including land in preservation forest areas and the illegal sale of state lands by state officials, the government spokesman, Prof Dr. Chaleun Yiapaoher told a press conference held shortly after the two-day meeting. The meeting has formed a task force committee to collect information and carry out analyses in details about the emerging land issues and report the findings to the government by October. The findings will later be reported to the politburo of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the National Assembly to seek guidance and solution. The land issue is a sensitive problem that needs guidance from the politburo, Dr. Chaleun told the press conference. Minister of National Resources and Environment, Sommad Pholsena chairs the committee, which is under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Bounthong Chitmany.
