Laos, European Union make milestone in cooperation

Laos and the European Union have reached a new milestone in regards to bilateral ties, with the eighth meeting of the Joint Commission of Laos and the EU taking place in Vientiane last Friday to discuss further cooperation. The meeting was co-presided over by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s Department of Europe-America Affairs Director General, Mr Khuanta Phalivong, and Head of the Division of South Asia and Southeast Asia for the EU, Mr David Daly. The Lao side highly valued the EU assistance to the country in targeting the Millennium Development Goals. Last year, Laos and the EU signed documents on EU support to Laos such as the EU assistance of 15 million euros to Laos for implementing a basic education project for 2014/15, 19 million euros for a nutrition project, 5.5 million euros for governance reform, and 5 million euros for UXO clearance.
