Laos, WB sign up to green growth transition

Ministry of Finance and the World Bank on June 7 signed an agreement for more than 316 billion kip (US$38.6) million in credit to support key policy reforms to maintain the country’s strong economic growth. The agreement expects to benefit more people, especially the poor and disadvantaged, while protecting the environment. 
The country’s First Programmatic Green Growth Development Policy Operation aims to establish the foundations for green growth planning and strengthen environmental protection and resilience to climate change in Laos. The agreement was inked by Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Bounchom Ubonpaseuth and World Bank Country Director for Southeast Asia, Mr Ulrich Zachau, witnessed by Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Dr Kikeo Chanthabouly. Dr Kikeo said green growth was cleaner, more resource-efficient, and more resilient to risks such as climate change.
