Mekong-Republic of Korea Summit held in Busan
THE First Mekong-Republic of Korea (ROK) Summit was held in Busan, South Korea, yesterday co-chaired by President Moon Jae-in, General Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The leaders adopted the “Mekong-Han River Declaration for Establishing Partnership for People, Prosperity and Peace” and agreed to continue the Mekong-ROK cooperation based on the three pillars of people, prosperity and peace with seven new priority areas: culture and tourism, human resources development, agriculture and rural development, infrastructure, information and communication technology (ICT), environment and non-traditional security challenges.
The leaders welcomed the designation of the Mekong-ROK Exchange Year 2021 to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the cooperation as an opportunity to promote culture and tourism cooperation among the participating countries and also welcomed the establishment of the Mekong-ROK Business Council and the signing of a memorandum of understanding among business organisations of the respective countries, which will lay a solid foundation for expansion of trade and investment opportunities for the business communities.
