Minister calls for greater press freedom
The Union Minister for Information, Dr Pe Myint, has called for greater improvement in Myanmar’s ranking in the World Press Freedom Index at a celebration to mark the World Press Freedom Day 2017. This year’s celebration was jointly sponsored by UNESCO Myanmar and the Ministry of Information and was held on May 3 at the Chatrium Hotel, Yangon. The theme for this year is “Critical Minds for Critical Times: Media’s role in advancing peaceful, just and inclusive societies”. Dr Pe Myint noted that important events are happening in several countries in the world and critical minds are needed to analyse them.
