MPs and human rights commission spar
Parliamentarians criticised the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission on 28 July, while discussing a report, about the commission’s work over the last year. The commission has been working to get human rights curriculums in primary schools and law schools across the country. Amyotha Hluttaw MP U Ye Htut (NLD; Sagaing 5) said the commission should do more to ensure protection of human rights rather than focusing on education. “Education does not do enough to ensure human rights,” he said. “We cannot educate a tiger to convert into a vegan. The tiger will never convert into a vegan.”
