Organisations discuss capacity for improved regional forest governance

The Center for People and Forests in partnership with the Lao Biodiversity Association and the World Wide Fund for Nature have launched a five year project to strengthen capacity in forest governance. Supported by the European Union, the project’s objective is to empower non-state actors in three trans-boundary landscapes to assess, monitor and respond appropriately to strengthen forest governance, particularly in FLEGT-VPA – the EU action plan for forest law enforcement, governance and trade-voluntary partnership agreements – and REDD+, Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, by 2021. An introductory and consultation workshop for the project officially entitled “Strengthening Non-State Actors/CSOs’ Capacity for Improved Forest Governance in the Mekong region” also took place in Vientiane on Monday and was attended by EU Ambassador, Mr Leo Faber, officials and a variety of other organisations.
