PM calls for more openness in corruption cases

Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has asked that every prosecuted case related to corruption be revealed to the public in hopes that misconduct by government officials is halted. Mr Thongloun gave the advice on Thursday when addressing National Assembly members at the Assembly’s ongoing third ordinary session. Taking action on specific challenges and attempting to address corruption has been at the heart of promises made by the government headed by Mr Thongloun, who confirmed the aspirations when taking the post a year ago. NA members have also questioned what the government has done to address such issues over the past year. “Regarding transparency and addressing corruption, it seems to me that many cases have been adequately dealt with but this did not appear in news reports,” Mr Thongloun said, adding that he had been informed of the cases.
