Project review assesses progress of flood risk mitigation

Over 61,000 people in Vientiane will benefit from the Flood and Drought Risk Management and Mitigation Project (FDM) after its completion, a review meeting heard on Friday. The project has been improving flood and drought risk management on more than 20,000 hectares of land, reduced the vulnerability to floods of over 61,500 people and increased the irrigated area in Vientiane to over 1,542 hectares, according to the FDM Project Coordination Office. The project is continually improving flood and drought risk management to prevent disasters and enhance the capacity of community-based disaster risk management by building embankments and irrigation schemes.
