Women flock to foreign work
The number of Cambodian women being sent to work abroad last year increased by 30 percent compared with 2015, a report said. However the report also noted that more than half of all the migrant workers who were rescued and repatriated last year were women. According to the Cambodian National Council for Women’s report, released yesterday and presented by Women Affair’s Minister Ing Kantha Phavy, there were a total of 38,196 Cambodians working as migrant workers abroad in Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. Of whom, 13,993 of them, or 36.6 percent, were women. In 2015, only 9,723 Cambodian women were migrant workers, amounting to an increase of 4,270 or 30.5 percent.
