Open Development Mekong publishes a new topic page on Gender Equality

SDG 5 – “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” recognizes gender equality as an intrinsic human right. Furthermore, the overarching goal of the 2030 Agenda to “leave no one behind” will be unachievable without gender equality and women’s empowerment.

(…) Having women’s representation in government is important for ensuring that national policies and legislation are developed in a gender-responsive way. In the Lower Mekong Countries, progress varies significantly, from Thailand where we see an overall regression, to Cambodia’s overall more than 10% increase. Yet all the countries remain far from having equal gender representation in government.
