Attapeu airport potential examined during PM’s visit

Attapeu International Airport may become more widely used in order to boost air transportation within Laos and the region. Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith visited Attapeu province on October 15-16 for a working visit to discuss the future of the airport with provincial authorities after it opened for flights in April this year. Mr. Thongloun also held discussions with crop growers, livestock and fishery breeders and businessmen in a bid to promote commercial goods production. At Attapeu airport, he heard that Lao Airlines flies from Vientiane via Champassak to Attapeu three times a week -Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. But for the first month after the route opened, flights were just twice weekly. Most of the Attapeupassengers flying from Attapeu to Vientiane come from Xekong province, which is located next to Attapeu, while some come from Attapeu itself.
