Cambodia and China set to sign Mekong-Lancang Fund agreement
Foreign Affairs Minister Prak Sokhonn and Wang Wentian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia are scheduled to sign the 7.2-million agreement on the cooperation projects of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund at the ministry today, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry statement.
The statement said that under the agreement, 20 Cambodian projects have been supported and granted $7,225,400.
It said the projects cover socio-economic development, human resource development, cybersecurity and capacity building, tourism and service improvement, as well as environmental and cultural protection.
The Mekong-Lancang cooperation was set up in 2015 with six members – Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Kin Phea, director-general of the Royal Academy of Cambodia’s International Relations Institute, said yesterday that the Mekong-Lancang cooperation is to bolster trade, people-to-people connectivity, development and security in the Mekong region, especially between Cambodia and China.
