Detailed assessments to form relief strategy

How much damage did the July-August floods really do? That will be the focus of a Recovery Coordination Work Committee meeting on 7 September, which will examine new detailed impact reports for each state and region.

U Soe Aung, first permanent secretary at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, said the assessments were the most accurate yet compiled and would guide recovery and rehabilitation planning.

The reports, which contain estimates on losses and damage, were compiled by the National Natural Disaster Management Committee with technical support from international and local NGOs and NGOs. The assessment for Chin State was the last to be completed due to difficulties accessing some parts of the state, which has seen widespread infrastructure damage.
