Dirty trucks being targeted by traffic cops

Vientiane traffic police have begun to issue fines to sand, gravel and soil trucks that are leaving trails of dirt and dust through the city.

Director of the Vientiane Traffic Police Department, Lieutenant Colonel Youtthaphong Souvannasing, told Vientiane Times on 22 February that if police at traffic lights see trucks leaving trails of dirt on the roads they will blow their whistles and ask them to stop.

“We don’t have a weighbridge to check the weight of the trucks because these are quite heavy items themselves but we can fine truck drivers for dumping dirt on the capital’s streets,” Lieutenant Colonel Youtthaphong said.
