DPM pushes development in Champassak

Champassak province should close all loopholes relating to the timber trade, and review all the procedures that have frustrated investors and delayed development. Deputy Prime Minister Dr Sonexay Siphandone tabled these issues in discussions with Champassak authorities during his visit to the province last week. Discussed was the implementation of Prime Ministerial Order No.15 on the timber trade to strengthen the management and inspection of logging and businesses involved in the transport of wood and associated activities. At the meeting between Dr Sonexay and local administrators, Champassak province Governor Dr Bounthong Divixay reported that in implementing the order, more than 10,000 cubic metres of timber had been seized as it did not have accompanying documents, while more than 29,000 cubic metres of logs were found felled in the Xepian-Xenamnoy hydropower project area, with 15,000 cubic metres of logs found at a second site after felling.
