Embassy ducks forestry dispute

The South Korean Embassy on May 9 declined to get involved in a dispute between a group of residents and a company which wants to clear forest near their homes. Activists from Prey Lang Community Network went to the embassy at Koh Pich to deliver a petition protesting the action by the Korean company Think Biotech. However the 14 protesters, who claim the clearance would damage their farms and community forest at Koh Pich in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district, emerged just five minutes later to say the embassy had refused to receive their petition. Prey Lang spokesman Hul Vet said, “They would not receive our petition, nor would they tell us why. They just told us to try to find a resolution and said they would speak with the company.”
