Factory hunger strike continues

Around 20 factory workers are still hunger striking while effective pay cuts and unpaid salaries continue, despite a government order that employers must implement the new minimum wage across all sectors.

Workers at the Han Jen garment factory started the hunger strike on 5 October. They demand their bonuses, such as transportation and meal allowances, be reinstated, otherwise they have been slapped with a pay cut by a minimum wage that most anticipated would mean a raise.

On 8 October the Han Jen workers said the factory bosses had offered them just 16 days worth of payment for their work in September.
