Farmers in Sagaing Region’s Kanbalu township staged a protest demanding the return of their land which were confiscated by the government, claiming that those lands have been farmed since the time of their ancestors. On April 23, about 100 farmers from Buu Kone and Myae Mon villages in Kanbalu township demanded that they be allowed to work on 1129 acres of Myae Mon cultivation land, and sought a speedy resolution to the problem of confiscated farmlands, Daw Tin Htay from Buu Kone village told The Myanmar Times. “Since the land was confiscated, we received no replacement land and no compensations. After governments were changed, we submitted letters to respective departments as we wanted to work again on our farmlands. We also met with respective departments in Nay Pyi Taw.
