Flood victims to get extra rice

The United Nations World Food Programme will support flood-affected people in Chin State with 500 tonnes of rice, as they continue to struggle after landslides and flood waters ravaged swathes of land in the country’s poorest state last year.

More than 9 million people were affected nationwide as Cyclone Komen caused floods and landslides in July and August and about 1.7 million people were temporarily displaced as a result. Close to 470,000 hectares of paddy were affected and almost 250,000 livestock were killed, according to WFP figures.
