IOM, Italy join hands to fight human trafficking

The International Organisation for Migration and the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare will cooperate in the war on human trafficking in Laos after signing a project agreement in Vientiane on 18 July between the IOM Head of Office Mr Damien Kilner and the ministry’s Director General of the Skill Development and Employment Department, Mr Phouvanh Chanthavong. The one-year project is supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation at a cost of US$166,620 and will officially start an anti-human trafficking and safe migration campaign in Khammuan province. The project aims to educate Lao government officials and community leaders at provincial and district levels about safe migration, the detection of human trafficking, and the protection of victims.
