Laos, Cambodia to benefit from new border checkpoint

A new international border checkpoint linking between the Nong Nok Khiene area in Khong district of Champasak province and the Trapeang Kriel area in Cambodia’s Stung Treng province is scheduled to officially open next month. In fact the border checkpoint has been open to the public since 2013 after the construction project began in 2010 and was completed three years later, according to the projects Manager Mr Kittisak Chonghak. The project cost more than 31 billion kip with the funds provided by the government, including the contribution from the local authorities, Mr Kittisak told Vientiane Times on October 6. The two prime ministers of Laos and Cambodia are expected to attend the event to join the cutting of the ribbon to officially open the border checkpoints together after ending the CLV meeting, which will be hosted in Cambodia next month if nothing changes, Mr Kittisak said.
