Laos and China signed nine cooperation agreements in Beijing this week after a meeting between the two countries’ top leaders. President Bounnhang Vorachit and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, a day after the first ever Leaders Roundtable of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. President Bounnhang led the Lao delegation attending the forum. The agreements aim to deepen cooperation in economics, education, health, electricity, finance and technical sectors, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release. Under the agreement on health cooperation, China will provide assistance to modernise Mahosot Hospital, an official from the Laos-China Cooperation Commission told Vientiane Times on May 18.
