MGMA disputes Guardian accusations of labour abuse

The Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association has hit back at international news outlets over alleged child labour and labour abuse issues. Members of the MGMA have accused those news reports as “unacceptable” and “not accurate” at a press conference held on 6 March in Yangon. “Their news and the report they reference are to be doubted,” said U Myint Soe, chair of the MGMA. The negative coverage about child labour in international brand factories, issues with minimum wage and working hours and firing labour union heads chiefs misleading and they deviate from the reality, said Daw Khine Khine Nwe, secretary general of the MGMA.
