Ministry okays wood plant

The government issued a statement on February 12 allowing Lim Royal Joint Stock Company to create a temporary wood and furniture manufacturing plant in Trapeang Srae village in Kratie province. According to an announcement signed by Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Veng Sakhon last Thursday, Lim Royal will be permitted to create the factory on eight hectares of land in Snoul district’s Pi Thnou commune for one year. Government officials are forcing them to build a fence around the area, Mr. Sakhon said. The announcement said the company must be willing to allow forestry administration officials to check the wood and issue permit letters for at least half of it. Mr. Sakhon added that Lim Royal would be held responsible for any forestry crimes committed during the manufacture and processing of wood in the area.
