Pyithu Hluttaw nod for increased land, water, embankment tax

A proposal urging the Union government to increase land, water and embankment taxes on farmers to be compatible with the times has been approved by the Pyithu Hluttaw on May 22. It was submitted by Ayeyarwady Region, Thapaung township Hluttaw MP U Thein Tun during the fourth regular Hluttaw session and was approved at the fifth Hluttaw session. The approval came after three MPs discussed in favour and an explanation given by U Hla Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation. According to the motion, the increased taxes will not burden farmers. The increased taxes in land, water and embankments are to generate more income for the State, U Hla Kyaw said.
