Sumprabum IDPs miss out on state government aid

The Kachin State government has ruled out providing aid to most people displaced by fighting in Sumprabum township because they have fled to areas close to Kachin Independence Army-held territory.

The state government and Tatmadaw have in recent weeks blocked local aid groups from sending aid to the villagers by river, which is considered the only viable means of access during rainy season.

More than 1400 villagers in Sumprabum were displaced in July after the Tatmadaw launched air strikes on Kachin Independence Army positions.
