Taikkyi earthquake aftermath

The earthquake that shook Yangon on Monday night injured 26 people and damaged a school, two bridges, six houses and 29 religious buildings, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Resettlement. The department will pay K200,000 for each damaged building and house, said U Win Shwe, the department’s director. Those who were injured will receive K50,000 each, he said. The magnitude 5.8 quake, which struck at 8:49pm Monday, had its epicenter 22 miles Northwest of Kaba-Aye seismological observatory. An aftershock at 10:19pm was centered 18 miles Northwest of the observatory, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
