Trash talk: Why waste management is not a throwaway business

As waste continues to increase on Phnom Penh streets and decrease government coffers, everyone from policymakers to the public wants a solution. Khmer Times’ Tom Starkey spoke to community leader in sustainability and owner and founder of Phnom Penh restaurant Farm To Table Brittany Sims about why ideas such as recycling are salient, but not the full answer.

At first, we tried to recycle where we could and I thought that was enough. However, I quickly began to realise that, in reality, we were still creating waste and adding to the problem. That’s when I really started to rethink our approach.
