Unions want meet with Minister to discuss Labor Law problems

Three union leaders have requested a meeting with Labor Minister Ith Samheng next week to discuss the contentious Trade Union Law. The three leaders – Collective Union of Movement of Workers president Pav Sina, Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers’ Democratic Union president Ath Thorn and Cambodian Alliance Trade Unions Yang Sophorn – submitted a letter to the ministry yesterday requesting that the minister meet them sometime between February 13 and 17. “The problems that we are facing are to do with union registration, the union’s inability to help workers who are not union members and workers losing their rights and benefits,” Mr. Sina said, adding that the difficulties union leaders are now facing all stem from the implementation of the Trade Union Law.
