US funds construction of Lao-American Nutrition Institute

The United States government has provided US$3.7 million or about 30 billion kip for the construction of the Lao-American Nutrition Institute in Dongphosy village, Hadxaifong district, Vientiane. A groundbreaking ceremony for the Lao-American Nutrition Institute took place in Dongphosy village on November 2, attended by Minister of Health, Associate Prof. Dr Bounkong Syhavong, US Ambassador to Laos, Ms Rena Bitter and the President of Oregon Health and Science University, Mr Joe Robertson. The US government is providing funding for facility construction, while the Oregon Health & Science University will serve as technical advisers for LANI. LANI’s educational programmes are expected to start in 2017, and the campus will be constructed over the next few years. When completed, LANI will have classrooms, a lecture hall, outpatient and inpatient clinical assessment and intervention areas, as well as a clinical laboratory.
