Myanmar youths to join ASEAN environmental meet

Five Myanmar university students have been chosen to represent the country at a regional youth meeting on the environment, the Environmental Conservation Department said.

The Environmental Forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus three (China, Japan, and South Korea) will be held on Thailand’s Phuket island later this year.

A department official said the five students are from Yangon University, Mandalay University, Mawlamyaing Technology University and the National Management Degree College in Yangon. They were chosen from among 71 students who applied nationwide.

“This forum aims to raise awareness among students who could be the future leaders of the country,” the official said. “We want youths to be interested and active in environmental conservation.”

The forum has invited youth participants from all 10 ASEAN members to share their experiences and best practices in cleaning the ocean, which is the main theme of the conference.
