UNICEF extends support for improved nutrition

The United Nations Children’s Fund to Laos has forecast a budget of over US$7 million in assistance to Laos from 2017 to 2018 to improve nutritional health. The support comes under the new Health and Nutrition Programme for 2017 to 2021 and aims to improve the nutrition of mothers and children in target communities. A ceremony to ink the agreement took place in Vientiane on  between Minister of Health Associate Prof. Dr Bounkong Syhavong and UNICEF Representative to Laos Ms Hongwei Gao, together with provincial directors of health departments. The project is known as Health, nutrition and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) and will be carried out in rural areas starting this year for a period of 24 months. It will focus on improving nutrition services for mothers and children.
