An Giang seeks emergency funds from Govt to deal with landslide aftermath

The An Giang Province People’s Committee has asked the Government for VNĐ123 billion (US$5.4 million) worth of emergency aid to deal with the aftermath of the severe landslide along the Vàm Nao River two weeks ago. The money is needed for filling a crater in the riverbank in Chợ Mới District’s Mỹ Hội Đông Commune to prevent further landslides, building a resettlement area for people moved out of vulnerable areas, repairing infrastructure and relocating a primary school. The province has also asked the Government to frame housing policies to enable the relocation of 20,000 households living in landslide-prone areas in the next five years.
