Govt secures World Bank loan for nationwide road upgrades

The government has secured a loan of US$25 million from the World Bank to further strengthen road maintenance and improve road connectivity throughout the country. The Ministry of Finance signed the loan agreement with the World Bank on February 7, with the two parties represented by Deputy Minister of Finance Ms Thipphakone Chanthavongsa and World Bank Country Director for Southeast Asia, Mr Ulrich Zachau. The Lao PDR Road Sector II Project is part of the country’s national programme to build climate resilient roads and infrastructure. The project will support road maintenance work in six provinces that are highly vulnerable to flash floods, landslides and other natural disasters, namely Phongsaly, Huaphan, Oudomxay, Xieng Khuang, Xayaboury and Borikhamxay.
