Japan agrees aid for port expansion

The Japanese government has agreed to help Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (SAP) introduce an electronic system for handling import and export procedures. The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system will allow companies to send one another electronic information, replacing the manual method currently in use. The agreement to introduce EDI was made between Public Works and Transport Minister Sun Chanthol and Japanese Infrastructure Minister Keiichi Ishii at a meeting last week. Mr Chanthol said, “We asked Japan to help us implement an EDI because the manual process used when ships check in and out from the port takes a long time.”
