Malnutrition remains a challenge for Laos

Health officials need accurate reports on community health, including figures relating to nutrition, if the problem of malnutrition is to be adequately addressed, the health minister has said. For several years, health officials working to tackle nutrition in some provinces have been reporting successes that have not actually been achieved. The matter has caught the attention of the public and caused complaints, because too many children in target provinces of the nutrition project are still malnourished. Minister of Health Associate Prof. Dr Bounkong Syhavong admitted the problem at a recent meeting to review Disbursement Linked Indicators in the health sector for 2015-2016, which relate to the importance of solving hunger and nutrition problems in Laos. He said hunger and malnutrition continue to be a big challenge for Laos.
