Minister assures Lao jobs in rail megaproject

Authorities in charge have prepared a workforce recruitment plan for the planned construction of the Laos-China rail project, Minister of Public Works and Transport has said.

Dr Bounchanh Sinthavong spoke to local media at a press conference recently and declared that a recruitment plan will be prepared so that local workers will be employed on the US$6.8 billion project.

Construction of the rail line, which will link Vientiane with the Chinese border over a distance of 417 km, was expected to begin in November if all works go as planned, the minister told local media.
