New housing projects for Yangon

In addition to the New Yangon city project, which is going to start at the end of February in the Kyeemyindaing township on the other side of the Yangon river, work to upgrade old houses and construct new housing for squatters and government employees will kick off at the same time, according to Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein. He was speaking during a Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry meeting between the government and entrepreneurs on February 18. He said the housing projects will be in collaboration with foreign partners, adding that Japan and several other countries have expressed interest to partner with the government. Old housing projects in the outskirts of Yangon are still in the stage of estate levels and negotiations have already begun to commence upgrading projects in March, said U Phyo Min Thein.
