Over 5 visses of gold panned at Mahamuni Pagoda

More than five visses (one viss equals 3.6 pounds) of gold have so far been recovered in the annual gold leaves debris panning process at Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay, said U Aung Moe, convener of charity at the pagoda. “Gold leaves debris panning started on February 7. It has been more than a month. More than five visses of gold can be panned until March 11. Most of the gold has been panned from the pagoda’s reliquary, and today we have recovered more than three visses of gold. “The total panned gold is more than five visses so far if it is combined with the gold panned during the previous days. More gold is likely to be panned,” he said.
