PM opens new bridges, water supply projects in Huaphan

Seven bridges along Road No. 6A and water supply projects officially opened for use in Huaphan province on December 23, aiming to boost socio-economic development and poverty reduction efforts. Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith was honoured to open the projects in ceremonies that were attended by senior government officials from Vientiane and Huaphan province. The seven concrete bridges have a combined length of 337 metres and cost US$5.77 million to build. Some 70 percent of the total funding was sourced from grant aid given by the World Bank and the rest was provided by the government. Construction began in March 2013 and the bridges link villages along Road No. 6A in Sobbao and Aed districts. Road No. 6A and the bridges serve as a main route for business operators and thus contribute to community development and poverty reduction in the area.
