Vietnam to build $1.3 billion expressway in Mekong Delta

A state-owned construction company is planning to build a 155-km (96-mile) expressway through the Mekong Delta using ODA and public funds.

The Cuu Long Corporation for Investment Development and Project Management of Infrastructure (Cuu Long CIPM) has worked with authorities in the delta’s Can Tho City and Hau Giang Province to appraise the options for its proposed Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway.

It would run along the Hau River from Chau Doc Town in An Giang near the Cambodian border to the coastal Soc Trang Town, passing through Can Tho and the provinces of Hau Giang and Soc Trang.

In the first phase it will be 17 meters (56 feet) wide before widening to over 24 meters and having speed limits of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

Estimated to cost around VND30 trillion ($1.3 billion), it will break ground in 2023 and be completed in three years.
